Paris is always on hopeless romantics long term lists of places to go. People save up, they mention it in conversations as places they want to go if they win the lottery. Don’t wait until you win the lottery. If you have the means to buy a vacation package deal for $1200 or less per person, do it. Stop buying Louis Vuitton bags (I’m clearly not a fan) and say no to family members looking for some emergency money. Paris is calling you.
There is so much about Paris I love but here’s why it should be on short-term list of places to go:
1. It’s so gorgeous. Sure, it’s not a beach town. But it is an urban oasis in a lot of ways Manhattan is but in a lot of more mature, calming, and slow paced ways it is not. There are very little skyscrapers and very old, Victorian, statuesque buildings that can look gloomy in the rain but romantic in the sun.
2. It’s the perfect place to relax. Parisian culture is relaxed, refined, and leisurely. The entire city at times engulfs you in its relaxation. There are no millions of taxis screaming at the city. There are no obnoxiously loud locals rushing you about on a Saturday morning. There are parks. There are pastry shops. There are small tables full of little old ladies and skinny young women taking in their nicotine and people watching.
3. Easy to navigate. Paris has a subway system that is the best in the world, in my opinion. It is not a grid like New York City’s. It is not as easy to navigate as New York City’s. But it is clean, efficient, extremely fast, safe, and reliable.
